Salamanders, griddles, chargrills and contact grills are workhorses that are easy to check and maintain, which makes them a good buy second-hand.
We stock gas and electric models from brands such as Lincat, Falcon, Parry and Archway.
What to check
- Check the griddle plate is flat and not warped or cracked.
- On chargrills, look at the burners and radiants or lava rock, which are cheap and easy to replace.
- Make sure every heat zone and control works, and that gas models have working flame failure devices.
- Check the size against your counter or stand, and the power supply against your kitchen.
Common questions
- Smooth or ribbed griddle?
- Smooth is the most versatile, for eggs, pancakes and burgers. Ribbed gives char lines. Half-and-half plates give you both.
