Ask what's in stockBuying used ovens & combi ovens
A combi oven can roast, steam, bake and regenerate, often replacing several other appliances. New ones from Rational, Lainox or Convotherm are a big investment, which is why used combi and convection ovens are some of the most popular kit we sell.
We also stock convection ovens, pizza ovens, steamers and bakery ovens. Tell us what you cook and how many covers you do, and we'll suggest the right size.
What to check
- Size is measured in grids: 6-grid ovens suit most cafés and restaurants, while 10-grid and larger suit high-volume and contract catering.
- Check the power supply. Many combi ovens need a 3-phase electric supply, so confirm what your site has before you buy.
- Combi ovens need a water supply and a drain, and scale is their main enemy. Ask whether it's been descaled and whether you'll need a water softener.
- Ask about the cooking hours and age if the oven records them, and whether the control panel and core probe work.
- Make sure door seals, hinges and lights are in good condition.
Common questions
- Gas or electric combi oven?
- Electric is more common and simpler to install. Gas can be cheaper to run, but it must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer qualified for commercial catering.
- Do I need 3-phase power for a combi oven?
- Most electric combi ovens from 6 grids up are 3-phase. Some smaller models run on single phase. Check the data plate, or send us a photo of your fuse board and we'll advise.
